My favorite lake park was also closed due to potential flooding, although the creek and reservoir were a different pair from the flooded Anderson Dam/Coyote Creek. When it reopened after 2 days and the sun came out, it was exuberant with life!

I seem to remember years where the drought was kept at bay with predominantly
overnight rains, and so these periods of extended rainy and gray days feels unfamiliar. Or perhaps our weather memories are short and impatient. This week the closing of my favorite parks added to the frustration, and apparently I am not the only one who felt this way, for when the sun returned and Almaden Lake reopened on Thursday, the mood was absolutely exuberant. It was like life had exploded. I have never seen so many people in the park. The picnic areas were full of school children, the bocce courts were in use, kids were playing basketball, the old men were at their tables with their games and cigarettes, and the wildlife was abundant, with seagulls completely dotting the
surface of the lake (and providing for dangerous overhead droppings), ground squirrels out sunning themselves, the usual waterfowl, and a tree full of large roosting birds, which I think were heron, although I couldnt find anyone who knew, and as I tried to get too close it was disturbing them so I settled for an unclear picture and a memory.
It was a beautiful day, and all were celebrating the return of the sunshine.
