notes for Photoshop Elements 14

When I saw Anna's new statue brushes, it reminded me of my birthday trip to California in November, when the kids and I were cooking dinner in the kitchen and all of a sudden it turned into a Vogue session. I had never heard of this type of dance, and luckily I was on the other side of the camera, but the moral of the story is, it's never too late to learn new tricks!

My challenge was to integrate the statues (because in vogue dance you pose like a statue), with my photo(s), so once again I used an artsy template as a place to start. This works for me because it gives me a pre-made, very fast, background even if I later decide not to use the frames. It seemed like a good idea to begin with a clean slate, so I turned off all the layers except the frames. I eventually turned them off too, as I built up my chorus line of statues and realized I was happy with just one photo.

Once the photo and statues were roughly placed, I added in a background paper for some traction, figuring that would influence my blending. Artsy paper #4 worked well both in texture and color.

From there I went back and did the fine-tuning on the statues, blending everything together with artsy brushes and layer masks. Then I went back into the template and turned most of the layers back on, recoloring most of the stains to match the blue and gold theme.

I do like my overlays, and I used Solid paper #1 toward the top of the layer stack at reduced opacity for a last bit of texture and color. There's a tutorial about that here: http://www.annaaspnesdesigns.com/art-replay-no-3/ I finished up with the string of MultimediaHearts and Beaded Threadz from the WordArt pack.
Oh my goodness I love this and Voguing. I love how your statues really feel a part of the photo action. Amazing brush and mask layering.

A fun connection between the photo and the statues. Awesome blending. And I learned something new.

Pure fun genius to include the statues in the Voguing line up! Laura, I admire your thinking outside the box approach!

Great page! Never heard of vogue dance so I'm intrigued. Awesome use of colour and brushes. Thanks for the link to the tutorial.

Hysterical!! wonder if the people posing for the statues ever tried to break out and cut loose?

Great page ... fun family time! I'd be glad to be on the other side of the camera too!
