Notes using Photoshop Elements 14
This is a redo of a layout I made about two years ago, not too long after I started digital memorykeeping, to document my daughter's band rehearsal. Lately I've been playing around with using Anna's artsy and solid papers as overlays both on top of and in the middle of the layer stack, using various blending modes and reduced opacities for lots of different color, textural, and grungy effects. The original of this page seemed to need a lift in visual interest, so I got to work. It's amazing the difference a few overlays can make.

In this case, to jazz up the original layout, I used two papers from the Inclement Artplay Palette as overlays on top of the flattened composition--Artsy Paper #1 and Solid Paper #1 (color burn and linear burn blending modes). I also wanted to add some music, since that's what the page was about, so I grabbed the little music tile from the Bliss Artplay Palette, enlarged the heck out of it, and blended it on top on multiple mode at 35%. With the use of layer masks, it was a snap to whisk away any music that wound up where it didn't belong. The end result was so easy to do but it now looks a whole lot better in my daughter's album.
Awesome treatment! I feel like I am sitting at the table closest to the stage.

Thank you for sharing the technique! I love the way the layers work together.

adore this, everything. love the "freedom" in this style and the different approach from your usual design.
