Colo Love

Saw this amazing photo on my cousin's FB. Colo lived in the Colombus, OH, zoo. She recently died. Colo was the oldest known gorilla in the world and the first gorilla to be born in captivity. Rejected at birth by her mother, zookeepers had to hand-raise Colo. They raised her much like a human child, by dressing her in clothes and giving her bottles of formula. Colo was introduced to a 19-month-old male from Africa called Bongo with whom she mated. Colo and Bongo had three offspring. She was the grandmother of 16, the great-grandmother of 12 and the great-great grandmother of three.

Thousands of Columbus residents and Americans nationwide grieved the news of the death, recounting childhood memories of the beloved gorilla. On FB mothers shared photos of Colo looking into the eyes of their children through the glass in her enclosure, holding up her hands to touch theirs. To those who met Colo, the gorilla displayed a tenacious personality, a sense of humor and a capacity to connect with visitors in remarkable ways.

Used APP Glacial too.

Thanks for looking. And for the record, I don't condone any animal living in a zoo.
Beautiful tribute to a lovely old lady. I was fortunate to live in Columbus when she was born so it's truly the passing of an era for me. Thanks for sharing her story with the O'Scraps community.

Great tribute to this old lady! We have to all worry about their disappearance in their natural housing environment which is reduced more and more!

Beautiful tribute! Wish I had seen her when my kids lived in Columbus. I read she did live 20 years longer than most gorillas.

You pick such interesting subjects! Love the photo, the blending, the story.
