1940s

A photo from the 1940's in the town I grew up in. When I was a little girl, I thought the parade went through the town on May 1st, was only because it was my birthday. My parents said not the truth to me what I remember and I was probably around 6-7 years old when I understood how it really was. A lovely memory it is, in any case!

Process: I started with a solid paper from ArtPlay Palette Antiquity and set it as the background. I began with another photo so the foundation I built up here was nearly finished when I changed my mind and deleted the first photo. Instead of starting all over again after hours of work, I decided to keep the foundation and placed the second photo on top of the layers. I added a mask and used the Gradient Tool and some brushes to blend it with the underlying layers. I also added more brushes and used a lot of adjustment layers before I merged all layers. I did a copy of the merged layer and added two adjustment layers: Photofilter and Color Balance. Then I finished the page by blending these two layers together.
incredible historical page... innocence of youth... texture... blending... very visual creation... May Day means so many different things... I love your perspective... YOUR Birthday!

Wonderful photo and photo treatment! Great feeling of history and pride. The textures add so much! [How nice that we share the same birthday! We would put little baskets of flowers on the neighbors doors for May Day when I was very young. That tradition went away by the time I was 10 years old. :( ]

Too cute that you thought the parade was just for you on your birthday!! LOL! What a fabulous photo to have and what a wonderful layout you created with it!

This is so wonderful! I love how it points to the changes in our perspective as we move through life. I love the photo. How exciting to have a parade on your birthday!

A wonderful memory for you Ulla-May, so different to my memories of the 40's in Australia where our country towns were not touched by war. This is a great Memory for you
