Melk Abbey Library

Looking back, I judged my favorites by tears. Places that caused tears to involuntarily spring to my eyes must have been the best. Thus it was with the library at Melk Abbey. These pictures are from postcards, internet images and the booklet I bought, since no pictures were allowed.

Journaling:
There were thousands of leather-bound, gold-trimmed books in floor-to-ceiling ornate, ornamented inlaid wooden shelves, plus a balcony with more shelves, more books. I believe there are a total of 18 rooms like this one (picture is from a postcard, since no photos were allowed), with spiral staircases to reach the upper levels. It took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. It was magnificent, and second only to Hallstatt in terms of my favorite sights on the trip. How I wish I could have seen all the rooms and gone up to the
balcony, then found a book, any book, and sat there to read.
Beautiful! I love how the colors of these pages remind me of those old gilded books.

What a great photo of the ceiling, so beautiful, I also love the other photo's and the great colors!!

spontaneous tears just indicate a deep connection with places with such a rich history. thanks, again, for sharing your travels.

Just beautiful. I found myself tearing up at a Brahms piece at a Joshua Bell concert over the weekend. Sometimes beauty hits the core in that very moving way.

The most amazing feeling when tears suddenly come from such beauty!! No wonder your found yourself tearing up at this beautiful spot! A fabulous page!

I haven't seen it yet and had no idea. How beautiful. And your page is beautiful too!
