Once again, it was raining as we arrived in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, so we took a taxi from the train station to our hotel. The cab driver nodded, brought us into town, and stopped in front of a wall of ivy and flowers. I wondered if he was mistaken, but he was not.
The Hotel Altfrankische Weinstube am Klosterhof was one of my favorite rooms and hotels, in a 700-year-old building full of knick-knacks and miscellaneous furniture, with a pretty four-poster bed covered in blue toile on the top floor, looking out dormer windows lined with geraniums. There was hardly any reception area, just a dark cluttered entry. It was very special.
