Bacharach was a really tiny town, especially the old town along the train tracks and the river, but it was full of pretty and interesting buildings, in a near-perfect state of preservation.
I enjoyed gazing at the details of the half-timbered buildings, all freshly painted for the tourist season.
One of my favorite buildings was the Post Hof, dating from 1724, when Bacharachs main drag was the only road along the Rhine. Giant doors led to a courtyard with a restaurant where we had a good dinner that first night. After dinner, on a walk high along the old town walls, we were able to look down into that courtyard and all the way to the river.
