I've been doing some genealogy sleuthing since January and decided to create some pages documenting my discoveries. This is the oldest record I've found so far...Christening of my paternal Eighth Great Aunt on 04 July 1686.
(The photo here is from the internet...I don't have an original photo of the original Christening gown...I tried using a map of the area in its place and wasn't pleased...may replace it with a photo of the Christening/Dedication gown I bought for my children...not sure.)
Text: According to records from Yorkshire: Birstall - Parish Registers from 1635-1687, the Christening of my Eighth Paternal Great Aunt, Mary Cowling, Daughter of John Cowling, took place in the hamlet of Great Gomersal in Birstall Parish, West Riding, Yorkshire, England, on the Fourth day of July, 1686. Using the Gregorian calendar, the Fourth day of July that year would have been a Thursday, but in 1686, England was still under the old Julian calendar making Sunday the day of the Christening.
