Journaling: Mission San Juan Capistrano was established in 1775 and is the 7th out of 21 missions founded in California. Like the previous missions, San Juan Capistrano was established to expand the territorial boundaries of Spain and to spread Christianity to the native people of California. During school spring break, Sophia, Aunt Shannon and Nana visited in April 2016 strolling through the buildings, enjoying the beautiful flowers and the swaying palm trees.

Process Notes: Using artsy paper 4 from APP Go See, I placed a mask with wonderful textures from the brush set in the palette on the page and clipped the photo to it. Duplicating the photo three more times, I used blend modes starting from the first photo: Normal, Screen, Soft Light and Color Burn. All are 100% opacity except the Color Burn, which is set at 12% opacity. I stamped another textural brush from the palette over the right edge of the photo and put it on Color Burn blend mode at 100% opacity. Over Aunt Shannon and Sophia I placed the WarmGlows using Color Burn and 34% opacity.
Next came transfers and art strokes from the palette, placing those at different areas of the page, blending when needed. I wanted the tonal feel of the page to match the photo which was important to me.
Next came the title and journaling. From there I added the birds, removing some with the lasso tool. I duplicated them and removed more birds and turned down the opacity. Adding the brad and arrow to the bottom left corner of the photo and the brick brush from ArchiTextures on the left side to bring the brick they are sitting on across the page. This looks like a wondrous place to visit with all the gorgeous textures to photograph.
