The oldest tunnel of the traffic(circulation) in the Netherlands is in Rotterdam. He(it) connects(binds) both banks of the river Nieuwe Maas. A bridge(deck) built in this place would too much have been big to allow the sea ships to pass. The tunnel was built from 1937 till 1942. He(it) consists of a set of prefabricated tubes which were pushed in a trench which was dug in the ground by the river. This technique was never used in Europe before. Two neighboring tubes for the motorized traffic (2 2 of the ways). Close by, there are two piled tubes. One for the pedestrians, at the top of which there is one for the cyclists.
