Austin used to be proud of its offbeat reputation; after all, the city's motto is "Keep Austin Weird." It was a haven for musicians and artists. But it is rapidly losing its funky vibe by becoming a trendy place for hipsters, techies and other entrepreneurial types. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a techie too, so I embrace the change; but that wonderful weirdness is getting harder and harder to find. Except on Congress Street in downtown Austin. It's filled with stores that exude funky with a capital "F." You can find anything and everything from an armadillo purse (yep, a real one) to Zoot suit from the 40s. And you can find some original art that is pure "Austin Weird," among all the trendy restaurants, of course. This snap seemed to showcase Congress Street in all its weird glory.
