Texas Bluebonnets

In Texas the bluebonnet is the revered state flower. During wildflower season (thanks, Lady Bird!), it's required by state law that you take at least one photo of a field of these pretty flowers. Preferably with a child or a pet posing in it. Just kidding! But I bet if you quizzed most residents, they would tell you that they did! Including me!

Used Anna's APP ForgetMeNot. Balloons from Jen Maddocks. Photo taken in a friend's front yard.

Thanks for looking.

More info if you're interested: Bluebonnets have been loved since man first trod the vast prairies of Texas. Native Americans wove fascinating folk tales around them. The early-day Spanish priests gathered the seeds and grew them around their missions. This practice gave rise to the myth that the padres had brought the plant from Spain, but this cannot be true since the two predominant species of bluebonnets are found growing naturally only in Texas and at no other location in the world.

As historian Jack Maguire so aptly wrote, "It's not only the state flower but also a kind of floral trademark almost as well known to outsiders as cowboy boots and the Stetson hat." He goes on to affirm that "The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland."
Heavenly...photo, depth of field, masking! Next year, I'm going to be in Austin to photograph those gorgeous blue bonnets...just missed it this year...about a week too early. Love the Forget Me Not background texture!

And the columbine to Colorado. The blue of the bluebonnet is mesmerizing. We have less colorful but plentiful lupine, and I love that they are spread by moose. Love how you blended the photo and the balloons are fun.

what lovely blue! Reminds me of the lupines in California. I'm not sure I've seen bluebonnets, but would like to. The padres are also rumored to have planted the yellow mustard along the mission trail in California, this may actually be true :) Lovely page, love the inclusion of the balloons!

I can see why! I would love to see those in person, but alas, my Texas days are long over. Love your balloons. Beautiful blending.

Your bluebonnets are beautiful!!!!! I was born in Houston, but I don't remember ever getting to see these in bloom before I left or on visits back home:(

I thank Lady Bird Johnson for making us respect wildflowers, they are so precious and beautiful as your Blue Bonnets clearly show on your beautifully blended page. In Washington State we have the Balsam, which looks like yellow daisies and the Indian Paint Brush as well as wild Lupine and protected Trillium. It's always exciting to see them in bloom.
