Gibellina is one of the most bizarre cities of Sicily. It all began on the night of January 14, 1968, when an earthquake destroyed Valle del Belice in the western of Sicily. In the town of Gibellina fell that night hundreds of deaths. Gibellina was totally destroyed.
The artist Alberto Burri made a great work of art in memory of the victims of the remnants of Gibellina. Large concrete platforms now indicate where once stood the houses.
