The journaling is a quote I found. it reads: She looked like art, and art wasnt supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.
I am using the quote until I come up with a different story.

process...
i am fascinated by embroidered vintage photos. whenever something grabs my attention like that, i try to recreate it digitally. this is my third effort. this is a little more elaborate because there are more layers and i added the embroidered flowers. i started with the photo and extracted the older sister. at first, i filled that section with stitching (i will save that idea for another page) then decided to do something more colorful and, instead, took the extracted image and moved it to the right of the photo. i used the mask behind the extraction because she was too "lost" on the strong solid without something behind her. next, i worked on the dress. there are a lot of layers! some of them are set to multiply or soft light to give some color variation. the hardest part was the shadowing which tended to leave the stitching looking dark. i added the flowers over the stitching. seems like after the dress, most of my time was spent trying to find a balance between the little sister and the other sister. i added some transfers to the photo to give it a little bit of faded color. the taped textures add some dimension and the artsy paint grounds the photo. still not sure if i like the paint bleeding through the cut out ... but, for now, i am leaving it alone.
Thanks for looking
