This Lamb family tradition goes back many years. Ruth Lamb decided that Charles birthday, January 12, was a perfect day to serve her favorite dish. So despite his indifference to the dish, the family gathered every year in January for beans and kraut. Some of us dont care for the kraut, so either two pots are prepared, or the non-kraut people get theirs served up before the kraut is added. After Ruth and Charles died, their children wanted to continue the tradition, so we faithfully carry on--because they love the dish, as an excuse to see each other once a year, and to honor their parents. We rotate homes, and never know just who will show up.
