Journaling: Let me tell you a little about what I see. Grandma Mandy (far left) has the sideways glance I have come to see as her trademark look but more interesting ... shes wearing a short skirt (I can see her knees!) and is that skin I see in her midsection? Scandalous. If this were a game show and the answer was Grandma Mandy on the beach in shorts and a halter for $1,000-I would have said, What is not in a million years. Standing next to my great grandmother, you see my maternal grandfather. I recognize the glasses and the smile, and the trousers with a belt, but no shirt? My grandfather was always dressed, just like his father, Grandpa Mandy on the far right. In fact, Grandpa Mandy is, if you will, in character. He was, based on family murmurings, not a very warm person (notice how hes separated himself from the group) but he was always impeccably dressed. I am sure there is a jacket and tie neatly folded over a beach chair somewhere off to his left. I have no idea who the affectionate couple are in the photo. Most likely friends and not relatives. The woman sitting is Annie. She was my maternal great aunt. This was taken before she went blonde. Her role in the family was always marginalized despite her vivacious personality. So, when I see her sitting while everyone else is standing I think two things makes sense and what a lovely piece of irony because my eyes go to her first when I look at the photo. The other recognizable face is my grandfathers brother, Myron. He seems to be wearing a turtleneck. Sensitive to the sun? My memories of Myron are faint. I remember him as a nice man with a friendly smile. Finally, whenever I look at my old photos I try to identify the photographer. Sometimes, it provides a little additional perspective. Here, I have no idea. It could have been a passerby or maybe its the person who would have filled the gap between Grandpa Mandy and the rest of the group.

Thanks for looking :)
process...
i started with solid no.3 from AP Love Letters. i ran artsy paper no.4 from AP Love Letters through the watercolor filter in PS. i masked the artsy paper using the new FB Overlays No.8. the overlay is set to multiply. the image was on a very white background so i didn't have to do any masking of the background. i placed the image over the paper layers and set it to multiply. i duplicated the image a second time and set the layer to linear burn. i created a composite image. over the composite, i have several thin strip masks, a mod grunge mask, and a label transfer mask. the masks are set to color burn and a copy of the composite is clipped to each mask. i added the textures over the masked image layers. i added the title and the journaling. under the journaling, i added a new layer. using the marquee tool, i created a box that was about the size of the journaling. i filled the box with white and set the blend mode to soft light. this helped to make the journaling a little easier to read. i resized everything a bit and it was done.

I understand your process, what I don't understand is how you think to do such things ;-) Really amazing effect graphically, the use of the masks, and the words. Great picture with which to start. Such a different approach to the use of the transfers. Great work!

Dazzled! How wonderful to have this perspective on these people. I LOVE how you journaled in in the center of the page. You totally amaze me.

absolutely adore your journaling! love, love, love the vintage beach vibe too.

Your incredible work is always recognizable. I wonder too how you come up with your ideas to use the supplies in the ways you do. What a gift!

Love to read your journaling. Amazing piece of art. Your process is awesome and I like the ways you use everything.

Writer and artist, you are! I wanted to keep reading...I love Jeopardy so I appreciated the fun game show reference, pictured Annie as a blonde, and also wondered about the identity of the photographer. Adryane, your words and art always inspire me...thank you.
