The red-rumped parrots are quite a common parrot here in Australia but its a curious thing we dont often see them. Even though they have adapted to urban habitats they dont like backyards, preferring to keep their distance from people. We have to look for them instead along tree-lined roadways and in parks or remnant bushland. We call them grass parrots because thats where they like to graze and where you most commonly see them.
The female is always well camouflaged with a dull olive-green plumage and its very hard to see her. They nest in tree hollows.
