Process Notes:
I wound up layering a bunch of papers from several artplay palettes, all pretty much on the multiply blend mode, trying to develop the right color and a texture that I liked. I added the (fuzzy, blurry) photo and framed it with the shadow portion only of a frame in the Memorable Artplay Palette. I clipped a photoglow to the frame shadow to warm it up, then topped the photo with a white frame. To light up the photo, I experimented with backlighting with photoglows until I found one that worked, then added a fine edge frame around the band members for emphasis. For some color in the crowd scene part of the photo, I added an artsy card from the Change palette behind the photo, brush-blending it and erasing whatever I didn't want. I added the doily and various stains and textures, then created the title with the Adler font and the word excerpts. Journaling the story followed. As I neared completion I added the dots and more texture as well as the stamped Number 1 and some embellishments. The overlay from the Viaggio Artplay Palette and an additional fine edge frame finished it off.
The Story:
Emmas vintage Casio keyboard gave up the ghost at a bad time, at an important gig, part of Sofar Sounds prestigious Secret Concert Series in Tribeca, NYC, so she had to just stand there and sing. No playing. She texted me yeah, the show must go on, and noted how the coordinators were impressed at how we didnt make it a big deal. She also shared her explanation to the packed house: Theres an open casket down the hall you can pay your respects to. Geez, Im so proud of Emma and Jake and Del. Not only for getting the job done, but for showing grace under pressure. Still, the crowd loved the band and ALL the merchandise sold out. A pretty good night, all things considered. --concert on Sept. 24, 2015
