Faribault Woolen Mill/ Anna Lift

My father and his family were born and raised in Faribault, Mn. Although they did not work in the mill it is still a part of our heritage. Founded on the bank of the Cannon River, the Faribault Woolen Mill is a living testament to American craft. Faribault woolens are renowned for their comfort and quality. From providing blankets for the pioneers heading west to comforting our troops through two world wars, these woolens are woven into American history. 1865 Original horse powered mill opens as a wool carding factory turning local wool into wool batting. 1872 Blankets offered for the first time. 1917 The mill supplies 10,000 olive drab army blankets and learns the meaning of mass production. 1941 Most production is diverted to weaving army blankets and sleeping bags for the troops. Civilian volunteers flood to the mill. 1967 Faribault Mill spearheads initative to eliminate flammable blankets. President Johnson signs the bill into law.
