ScriptTease:
Heavy metal build-up is toxic to aquatic life. The metals are from a combination of natural erosion and runoff from inactive mine infrastructure. Several sections of the Uncompahgre River are impaired waters for heavy metals.
Journaling:
After lunch we drove the Million Dollar Highway out to a work zone. As we turned around we saw the gold color of heavy metals in the Uncompahgre River. Back in town, the river was a little less yellow where it flowed right below our deck. Remember our room with an electric fireplace, deer antler lamps and plenty of track lighting.
Locals said there are no fish in the Uncompahgre River. This impairment is not new and is not related to the Gold King Mine spill into the Animas River in August.
