Rich businessmen sold dreams and people bought shares in the mines. The miners built these amazing narrow rocky steep roads.

Journaling
Mineral Creek 4x4 Trail is the quickest and most direct way to Engineer Pass, but it is also the most difficult. A brochure from the Forest Service notes that it's for experts only. Remember scary tippy sections leaning us toward the dropoff and how you stayed on the big rocks as much as you could. I got to where I didn't look.
I am glad I can get a glimpse of the amazing trek... without the scary moments that you endured.Thank you for the stories and the beautiful view!! lol,I will add you to my list of daredevils that I admire!!

Amazing trek on very dangerous trails! You are braver than me! Love your red Jeep and how it stands out against the rock and the sky!

Wonderful storytelling...with words and pictures...love the sketch and well-appointed details!

I love the background with the 'stains'. Really shows off your photo. Your journalling is so interesting to me. I'm wondering what forests were cut down behind you there. And very much doubt I could follow your jeep down that trail. I'm a wuss :)

Tamsin,
The altitude is 12,800 ft (3,900 m) and it gets bitter cold with high winds in winter. Trees can't grow that high, so the area is above treeline. The terrain is alpine, which means the flowers and mosses are no more than two or three in (5-8 cm) tall.
