In this survey: 3 bull 1 spike 17 cow & calf
During the rut, cows and calves form harems with one or two mature bulls. The bulls will be less and less social with their summer companions. Their antlers will darken and neck and hump may swell to twice normal size.

Journaling:
We stopped to put away our cameras for the drive home, and over on the far side of the valley, a half mile away, you saw the elk.
So, a harem. What is a spite? You have a very interesting life. Will you return to these sites? I think you need to make a deal with National Geographic. If you were never a school teacher, you are now. Love how Anna made that notebook stamp just for you.

Thanks everyone! Debby, a spike is a yearling bull elk, his horns are very different from the more mature males. https://www.google.com/search?q=spike+elk&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 I don't think they have a chance of mating in this year's rut. The park entrance is not far from us so we can go anytime.

oh this is just fabulous, love seeing several photos on your pages, and love the notebook effect!

I like the journaling, the artstroke, the drying leaves, and of course, the notebook adds a new style. Beautiful!!

wonderful way to use the notebook brush. the inclusion of the GPS coordinates is one of my favorite adds to some of your pages.
