still experimenting with gradients and the embossing fx in ps.
i found a paint-by-number i did for my grandmother when i was about 7 (it came back to me some 30 years later when the house was sold). it is of flowers on black velvet.
i tried to replicate that look but this looks more like foil than oil. this also looks darker here than in ps.
i will keep trying :)

process...
i stamped the mountain high brush on a new layer. i added a color gradient then an embossing effect from photoshop (fx menu). i searched through the different strokes for some brushes that would make good trunks and that could be used in the foreground i also used on of the watercolor tree brushes and adjusted its width so that it was very skinny. the bokeh is added under all of the other layers and reduced in opacity. i framed the trees, then added the gold paint layer over the frame layer.

Thanks for looking :)
striking! looks like it belongs in a mid-century home. love how you framed this.

Well, your happy accidents are stunning. Love love love. The artstroke is brilliant.

It's almost a burned or melted foil, an intriguing effect. The gradient colors look perfect to me--noticeable, but not obvious ("obviousness" being my problem when I mess around with the gradient tool).

I love the luminescence of the foil trees! I don't know if you've ever tried this but when I'm trying to get that embossed look I'll sometimes go to Layer>Layer Style>Style Settings> Bevel. (that's the path in PSE9 which is what I use). I find the bevel effect gives you that embossed look plus it has a slide bar that enables a lot more control.

It does look like paint, oil paint with a bit of a sheen, you've captured that look perfectly and much, much better than any paint by number artwork! I remember those paint by number kits well, because I liked drawing and painting my family kept buying them for birthdays etc...and I HATED them LOL! My artwork on black velvet wasn't worth keeping, the paint all soaked in and I was left with an insipid mess :)

I love the light emanating from the page, and brought forward even more with the artstroke at the bottom. Wonderful work!

I love the texture, it's beautiful! How neat to have something you did as a child!
