these are my great-grandparents on a trip from the East Coast to the West Coast (where they relocated) circa 1931. the bottom photo is shot of the LA basin.
all of the original photos are on one tiny film strip.

because the photos had to remain small to keep any real detail, i wanted to find a way to frame them without overwhelming them. i created tiny masks and clipped the photos to the masks. i know that the building they lived in when they first came to California was brick and had fire escapes much like the ones in one of the ArchiTexture files. so, on a new layer, i stamped the ArchiTexture brush (far right). i duplicated that layer and flipped it horizontally (far left) then, i added a third layer and stamped the front facing building brush found in APP Downtown. this brush forms the center of the building. the taped textures are added over the building. i added just a little color with one of the light leaks (about 60% fill), the splatter, title, and the line at the bottom and called it done.
