The plants occupy very moist alpine areas where snow drifts lie late into the summer.
Journaling:
The road to Webster Pass had been covered with snowbanks at the start of the week and we had turned around. By the end of the week the snow was gone. The road in the valley below Radical Hill was a wide, swift stream. Up higher the road was still covered in heavy snowdrifts.
