process...
it turns out that there is a rounded rectangle tool in photoshop (it's with your custom shape tool drop down menu). i made a rectangle on a new layer and filled it with black (color does not matter at this point ... just working on the shape). then, i duplicated the rectangle layer and made it smaller (this one was white so i could see it clearly for the next step). i placed it over the bigger rectangle and positioned it, then using CTRL + left click i clicked on the smaller rectangle layer in the layers palette (this gave me marching ants around the smaller rectangle), then selected the layer with the larger rectangle and delete. when i turned off the smaller rectangle layer all i had left was the big rectangle with a hole in it. yay! this shape was duplicated multiple times. if you look at the design, you can see the the columns are done in two sets of three. when the first column was done i duplicated it and rotated it. repeat. repeat, and repeat. now for the fun part! choose your colors and fill the shapes. i am sticking with a sixties color palette. the image of the camera is added over the pattern in two layers (multiple for one and screen for the other). i worked a fair amount of time on the shadows to try to get the camera to look dimensional, then debated on whether or not to include the little camera strap. i added the splatter overlay (set to multiply), and the title, and it was done.

Thanks for looking :)
Great shadow work, it does look dimensional! I'm enjoying your explorations of retro graphic in the gallery!

that shape (doh, of course there is a rounded rectangle! :)) is great, and the olive green so perfectly retro, as are the rusts. very cool dimensional effects!

The shadow work on the camera looks great! Love the olive green and orange colors. I once had a kitchen with those colors!

It has a retro sixties style and yet in some way it's very different. The depth is very interesting. I love the camera strap. It seems key.

the design (on all counts) and colour combination of the 1960, 70s and 80s are not my favourites, but this page is gorgeous.
