Chelsea's Light

I felt a need to create this page today (another therapy page, although not Art Journaling). I do not think Chelseas family would mind. This is created in the memory of Chelsea King, a young girls from our home town murdered by a sex offender on parole, who was supposed to be monitored, but was not, because the State of California dropped the ball. Chelsea, while jogging along side a lake, was raped, and murdered. Residence of the City of Poway banded together to search for Chelsea, and after 5 days, found her body. My daughter was hard hit by this as I had been telling her never to be in a remote place by herself, and she always told me nothing would happen, just as Chelseas mom had told her that very morning, not to jog by herself. My dd had met Chelsea just hours prior, and she came home to tell me she met a really nice girl at school that she felt she could be friends with, only to find out within moments, that she was missing. It hit her hard, and she still has yet to recover, and now shys away from doing many things that she would not have thought twice about in the past. Chelseas parents helped to pass Chelseas Law that would increase penalties, and oversight for sex offenders, in hopes that the next child is saved. After the killer was found, it was determined that a year before, he killed a 14 year old, Amber Dubois, and escaped the death penalty by leading authorities to her body.

Chelsea loved the color orange, and sunflowers, and was big on inspirational quotes, which she would write down on post-it notes, and place all over her room. While searching for her, everyone wore They can because they think they can on their shirts, along with orange ribbons. The page I created includes many of the quotes that she loved.

Today is the fifth anniversary of her death, and Chelseas Light.org has released a song in her memory, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duCOtZmik2Y In addition, each March, a 5K run is held in her honor, entitled, Finish Chelseas Run. It will be held this year on March 7th. Beside Chelsea's law, and the 5K run, Chelsea's family has done so much in her name.

When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world John Muir
If we all did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves Thomas Edison
If your actions inspire others to dream more, do more, and become more, you are a leader John Quincy Adams
Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal, nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude Thomas Jefferson

AnnaBlendz CheckerBoard No. 1 BrushSet http://www.oscraps.com/shop/product.php?productid=27914&page=1

The Process: I began with a background paper that had a nice graduation of color throughout. I added the checkerboard fotoblendz, and attached the photo. I then added a few brushes from AP Among Friends. I added the Title, and above the title, I created a gradation of color on a separate layer, and then clipped it to the font. I placed under both the title and the fotoblendz, the sunflower. I then began adding the quotes, and since the transfer I used from AP Among Friends had the little diamonds, I chose to duplicate them, and use them as bullet points. Because Chelseas favorite color was orange, but the diamonds were black, I selected the black, and recolored them to orange. I added the orange fotoglow to the upper left, and then decided to modify the color of the background paper just a bit, as I thought the pale aqua/blue worked better with the rest of the page. I added the small heart transfer at the bottom (also from AP Among Friends).
