My Papa, my mother's dad; he was a miner because that was what was what was available to the young men in the villages where he lived, but he was an intelligent young man of incredible integrity who stood up for those less fortunate and stood up for the rights of workers. He was involved with the embryonic trade union movement and active in the 1925/26 great strike in Great Britain, 1925 was the year my mother was born. The strike was crushed and because he was associated with speaking up for the rights of miners he lost his job and was never allowed to work in a mine again. The rest of his life was spent working in a Quarry. I adored my Papa, I loved his integrity, his intelligence, his life long quest for social justice - I like to think that I have inherited his spark, his need to speak out against the inequality that exists in British society, I'm proud of him!!
The photograph was clipped to a combination fotoblendz. I make my own by layering different fotoblendz then merging together once I am happy with the composition. The colour was created with a fotoglow. I also merged part of a previous page; I wanted to show the young boy with the grown up man. The rest was created by layering transfers and brushes and finishing off with some stitches.
