Process: This may sound odd, I turn off everything but the frames, text boxes, titles and strokes on the templates before saving them to an external drive. It allows me to see the empty spaces with a more open mind, more like a blank canvas with a rough design sketched for me. Ive used just the frames and text box of a template for other layouts.
I chose this template and art palatte with some photos from the Huntington Library in mind. After dragging over all the pieces of the template to a blank page, I placed watercolor foto blendz mask next to the frames and clipping my photo to that layer. I clipped the other photos to the small frames. I added the white, solid paper 2. I next put paper 4 above it on multiply blend mode at about 20% so that the white I wanted to use would show up better. For the background, I then started turning on pieces of the template, recoloring a transfer, changing the blend modes, adding a color fill layer to the flourishes and clipping the large photo to several of the layers for effect. There were some layers that I masked and blended. I also used some of the overlays from the art palette, for example recoloring overlay 1 and 2 on the right side below the brad.
I placed the multimedia branch, shadow and black splatters above the framed photos, the other parts below the photos. I recolored the leaves and splatters. I duplicated the top leaf and moved it over to the right below my brad. I put the butterfly along with art stroke 3 from the palette on the top right and repeated part of it below the brad on the bottom right to create a visual triangle. My journaling came last on this layout. I duplicated my text so that it was more readable and added the date.
