Process:
1. Given that this was a specific assignment to use one art palette and one multimedia element and with an older photo in mind, I started by selecting one of the homes from MultiMedia Homes No. 1 and the ArtPlay Palette Home.
2. I placed the psd version of the multimedia file on my blank canvas.
3. Next I positioned my photo on one the lines dividing my canvas into thirds. As this was a photo from an older digital camera, I didnt try to increase its size. I added transfer 2 and 7 to the sides of my photo and began to blend the photo and transfers together to extend the look of my old brick porch. I added a curves adjustment layer to each of the transfers to help blend them better with the brick in the photo and set the blend mode of the transfers to multiply. I chose paper 6 for the background and used a levels adjustment layer to lighten it.
4. Then I started working with the little multimedia home, changing the color of parts to match our old house. I cut out a portion of the impatiens from the original photo with the marquee tool and clipped it to the flowers brush on the multimedia home. I added another copy of the impatiens and blended it just below the flowers of the little home file. With an urban thread I stitched down a portion of the word label from the palette home. Once these layers were linked together I experimented with the position, finally flipping it all horizontally and placing it on the right edge.
5. I then started my journaling and positioned the text box below the the little home.
6. I went back to the focal photo, added splatter 2 to the right edge, duplicated it, recolored the top copy and masked out parts to add a little green. I placed splatter 1 and 3 above the photo. I colored brush 14 white and placed it to the left and below the little home. I masked out parts of the art stroke from the palette and placed it below the photo.
7. Next, I wanted something on the left to pull the eye out from the focal photo. I used some of the same pieces I used on the right to create a mini cluster, including the splatter 2 and 3, and brush 14 in white. I reduced the size of the brad to about 75% and placed it just above the urban thread. I blended in another copy of the impatiens in the clay pot.
8. I added a few more splatters by Jana Morton above the photo and transfers. I finished my journaling, tying it in with the word label from the palette. I recolored the windows the little home to match the brad.
9. I dont usually separate my title from my journaling, but in this case, I experimented to see if it would balance the little house and journaling. Visually, I like the extra black from the type. If you've read this far, I'd like to share that I'm not nearly as linear as this list indicates
