journaling reads:
Travel. The word brings about visions of delight in most people. Dreams of what they could only hope for. Trips to fascinating, exotic places for weeks at a time - no responsibilities. Adventure and Exploration! At least, that is what it used to evoke in me. I think living in Burma took it out of me. It is exotic and exciting, yes, but we had to leave the country every 10 weeks. AND we had to leave by plane. We tried to make it fun by visiting different places as often as possible, but with kids in tow and work responsibilities, it really starts to wear on you. It is funny too, how living an exotic life takes away the exotic nature of it. So many things that most of our friends or family back home would find astonishing are just part of everyday life for us. Even when we travel outside of our country of residence, things just don't surprise us anymore - which in a way is good, we are able to go with the flow in whatever country we are in - but it takes away some of the awe that makes travel so appealing. I guess that is one of the differences between seasoned travelers and occasional tourists. We like traveling, and we love living in foreign countries, always learning new languages, new customs, but we just dont see it the way most folks do.
