From our June road trip, this is Redwoods National Park in very Northern California. We never knew rhododendrons grew wild like this in redwood forests...they were spectacular!
Journaling:
It was like walking in an enchanted forest, among these old-growth redwoods. You would not be surprised to see a fairy or elf poking out from behind one of the huge trees, or hiding inside one of the ancient burn holes or beneath a set of shallow roots. The trees are so tall and the branches so thick, they only let in a smattering of sun rays. So it is cool and green on the forest floor, covered in ferns and the occasional mushroom. Supposedly only a small
percentage of the old growth trees still exist, despite conservation efforts. Hats off to Lady Bird Johnson for helping to preserve this beautiful area.
