I have used a main image and treated the image with watercolor techniques and watercolor brushes,
I changed during the process the opacity, scale and direction of the brush,
always using the same brush with large surface and well defined edges.

In this case I added also after the technique described in the tutorial above,
a final filter to the image using Filter->Artistic->Cutout effect changing the number of levels, the edge simplicity and the edge fidelity.
For the use of this filter I take the trial and error approach changing it as needed on every image as the effects are differently effective across different type of images.
