journaling: You all laughed at me, Bob, as you took me into all the wonderful little shops in Great Torrington, North Devon, England. Jean had made a list for us. We had to pick up special buns at Sandford's Bakery and the Green Lantern Cake Shop. Then onto Quality Butchers for sliced ham for the buns for lunch and sausges for another meal. Fresh tomatoes at John Patt's. I was totally dellighted with all of the shops that day, stopping in as many as possible, even when we had nothing else to purchase. This is an ancient market town and the Square has many interesting and attractive buildings. The banner that waves over the street says "us be plaised to zee'ee" and I was so pleased to be there. It was just so picturesque and beautiful everywhere I looked, and there I was, the American, with camera in hand, snapping pictures of everyone and everything. And you all laughed at me!
Move ahead, a few months later. I have sent you a scrapbook album, weighing 5 pounds, with 100 pages of photos and stories of my wonderful week with you in May of 2002. Now who is laughing, as you tell me about carrying it with you everywhere you go, to show all of the shop keepers and your friends, the gift of photos from that crazy American friend, with the camera!
