He's a Peruvian donkey which are beasts of burden in the Andes. A friend who travelled in Peru told me how sad she felt for them. Some carry quite heavy loads and of course their owners are very poor and have barely enough food for themselves. A sanctuary provides some veterinary care. Run as a charity, it operates in other countries as well.
