July 4th

Journaling reads: Cora was so excited holding the red, white & blue stars she had made at school, as she and her mom posed for photos prior to going over to her Grand-parents for barbeque. She couldnt wait for the fireworks at Lake Poway in celebration of the 4th.

The Process: I dont usually like creating a layout too far removed from the holiday, but it grew into a very fun layout that I enjoyed putting together. I began with Annas Artsy Layered Template no. 58. I have to confess that much of its beauty has been covered by my addition, but that just means I will have to use it again, and no one will even know. Now on to the layout I added the 2 small photos to the clipping masks in the frames. I then added the large photo to the fotoblendz along the right edge. Playing around with this fotoblendz, I placed it on blend mode color burn. This washed the photo out quite a bit. I then copied the photo, and placed the photo on top on blend mode multiply I brought the opacity of this layout down to about 70%. At this point, I added the American Flag paper as a base, which I attached to a variety of template layers. Under these layers, I also placed a textured neutral paper give just a bit of texture to the right side of the layout. Because the flag paper was showing through portions of the photograph on the right side, I copied this photo one more time, masked all of it out, but then painted in just the faces, so that none of the stripes of the flag paper showed through. I then began to place the various transfers and brushwork around the two framed photos. The title was added to the lower center of the page. The blue glitter alpha was darkened using levels to give it the deep blue. Behind the title I added the WarmGlow, rotating it to best show the starbursts, and then I added the paper star, attaching a red paper to the mask layer of the star. I finished up by adding the line of stars to the top and bottom of the page. I used a gradient mask to have the stars fade out as it reached the center of the page.

Love what you've done with the template, especially the flag in the background and the photo blended in front!
