journaling: I had come to England, from my home in Montana, USA, to give moral support to my dear friend, Jean and her family, as she battled the cancer that would take her life a year later. For forty years we had been penpals. She and Bob had been to see me twice, but I had never found the time or the money to make the trip to visit them in England. How quickly and easily it all fell into place when I realized that my visit would be such a special gift to her. She loved England and she had shared that love with me through her letters and eventually, in later years, through daily e-mail. We spent many days on the roads of North Devon County. The same roads she had driven so many times, in her work helping people in the county. Now she was in the wheel chair and could only ride, but she was a terrific tour guide in the car, in this most perfect place. Photo was taken through the front car window. With my dear friends, May 2002
