There is a big presence of military in San Diego. We are fortunate to have the de-commissioned Air Craft Carrier the USS Midway. It is now a museum, and many other military exhibits have sprung up around it; two of which are the 25 foot tall bronze Unconditional Surrender statue, which was supposed to be a temporary exhibit, but was so beloved, that donations allowed another statue to be made and erected permanently. There is also the Thanks for the Memories exhibit, which is a grouping of 15 life size bronze figures which are a tribute to the 5 decades that Bob Hope entertained the troops. The statues depict the men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Coast Guard.
Journaling reads:
Modeled after the famous VJ Day photo, this 25 foot bronze statue - Unconditional Surrender, towers over little Cora, as she stands at their feet. Originally on loan to the museum, donations allowed a permanant statue to be built and erected for all to enjoy.
Of the 15 life size bronze figures in the military tribute to Bob Hope, this nurse captured Coras attention. She stood and stared at this nurse for some time before chosing to sit in her lap with a big smile on her face.

The Process: I began with a solid from AP Routine, but added a textured overlay, that was enlarged so that only the center texture was used. I added a variety of transfers to create a base for the photos. I added the photos, but masked out the edges. I added the frames , and the staples. The Word Art, elements and journaling was added, along with a variety of brushwork from AP Routine. I added the LoopDaLoop, making certain to encircle Cora in the loops, and then placed the red brads. I took the arrow from NumberIT, and placed it to point out how tiny Cora is in comparison to the statue, and then placing text on the arrow, I selected the text pixels, and masked this area out of the arrow. This arrow was place on top of the flower which was partially under the photo, making it look like it was partially blended away. There were too many things about the page that were military, so I used AP RedWhiteBlue to finish up the page. I used the star overlay, but blended in the stars only under the photos, and page title. Under these stars, I added a WarmGlow, bringing down its opacity to just give the hint of color.
