To Hear Him Play

journaling reads: I never heard my dad play music. I only knew he use to play because when I asked to be in the school band, and mentioned I wanted to play the flute, I was told that I could take clarinet lessons, because we already owned one. I took lessons from the man who taught my dad. He told me my dad was quite good, but still, I never heard him play. I look at this photo, obviously a professional portrait with the draped back-drop. It tells me he had to be proud of his playing ability, especially since he played various saxophones and the clarinet. I imagine that once he married, he felt those days of hobbies were over, as he now had a family to provide for. Still, I wish I had - I am certain his eyes would have lit up as he played, and how I wished I had seen that joy.

The Process: I think I often get carried away with a page, and that might be the case here, but I start working, and finding wonderful elements to add, and find it hard to stop and say it is done. Being that this was a photo that was near and dear to me, I didnt mind spending the extra time. I began with a plain background paper, and added transfers from AP Snapshot across the width. I blended the patterned paper underneath the transfers and placed it on Blend Mode Linear Burn. I then blended out all but the pattern at the center. I also added fotoblendz under the transfers to darken the area along the center as well. I blended the photograph onto the paper (on the left), I then copied it, reversed and enlarged it and blended in just the face above the camera transfer on the right. I then began dragging on a variety of elements, playing around with their arrangement until I was satisfied. I added the journaling to the center, and then added the title. I finished up by adding a variety of music brushes along both edges, and a variety of edge overlays, playing around with their color and blend modes until I was happy. The last item added was the WarmGlow, as its color was perfect for the page, and I love them!!! Fini!
