Dear Ben,
Every year, the start of the school year brings new excitement and fun. New books, new pencils, new clothes, new possibilities. But the new year also brings growth and with it, another year of my baby being gone. So forgive me if I shed a tiny tear as I gather up your supplies and buy yet another, longer, pair of pants. Ignore the sadness in my smile as I take your picture in front of the door. Try not to wince at the too tight hug I give you. It's just me, trying to hold on to the last pieces of you being my little boy. Trying to savor the moment of you still being my baby. I remember back to my own school years and how my mom was always such a major part of it and I wish she was part of yours too. Because of her, I know how precious these memories are and how they will fly by too quickly. So give me a few extra minutes before heading out that door. They mean the world to your mama.
