Here's my entry for June 2013 Art Journal Challenge to use circles and for DigiDare # 326 about my name.
My name, Selena, comes from the Greek Goddess of the Moon, Selene, hence my moon & cosmic elements. To save you the eye strain of reading the journaling, here goes:
When I was 4 I thought my name was pretty, because everyone said Selena? Thats unusual. Its very pretty.
When I was 8 all I heard was the Thats unusual, bit and it worried me that I was different. Why did my parents have to give me this silly name? No one could spell it, lots of people couldnt even pronounce it. What were they thinking? I wished I was called something more normal, like Sarah. I liked the name Sarah, I would have preferred to be called Sarah. Lots of people are called Sarah, its a nice, normal name.
When I was 20 my friend Dave called and started his conversation the way he always did Hello, its Dave XXXX. And then it hit me. He had to give his surname every time because there are lots of Daves in the world. And Sarahs. But not many Selenas. My name is almost unique. Its unusual. Its pretty.
So I have come full circle and I am happy with my name. I enjoy being the only Selena most people know, and give thanks to my parents for finding a name that makes me stand out a little but not too much!
