Ketch

My AnnaLift this week, using inspiration from fl@computerland.be. https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=286781&title=knokke&cat=1351

Ketch was a special horse that had been abused by a previous owner. When Marianne bought him, she knew he would have to have special care because of this past. For years she had to keep his halter on him at all times, and his bridle was always carefully place on his head, along with the halter. After working with a trainer - Lou Scarlett, Marianne was able to take the halter off of Ketch, and work with his head issues. Marianne gave him a good life and treated him well, and he became a wonderful trail horse, and a lesson horse for Cindy. He was actually the first horse that I took out on trail, and except for him backing up a hill when we came across a deer (his way of avoidance), he did quite well. I was sad to learn that he developed skin cancer and died. I will always think so fondly of this little guy, and remember how exhilarating it was for me to see him running, and showing off - the only time I ever caught him running free like this - and how glorious he looked kicking up the dirt behind him.

The Process: I really had to stop myself from going overboard on this layout, as I tend to make things more complicated than they have to be. I used a simple background paper, but added texture by using both another cardstock from the ArtPlay Palette Wunderlust (bringing up the contrast and using blend mode Luminosity, and then I also used the Chevron paper from ArtPlay Chevron Crazy Life, used blend mode Linear Burn, brought down the opacity to about 20%, and masked portions of it out, to show just a hint of the chevron,. I added the photograph, masking portions of it out, and then applied the blend mode Luminosity. This caused the photo to be monotone. I placed the photo frame on top of the horse. I then copied the photo, and dragged it up above the frame layer in the layer stack. I masked out all of the photograph except for the horse. I changed the blend mode of this copy to Normal, to bring back the horses color. I copied this photo layer once more, and applied blend mode Hard Light to it, to intensify the color a bit. I brought down the opacity of this layer a bit, as I wanted the horse to seem to be popping off the page, but I didnt want his color to be un-realistic. By placing these two layers of the photo above the frame, it allowed the horse and the dirt to cover the frame. I applied a custom shadow to the frame. I used a gorgeous transfer from ArtPlay Palette Viaggio to act as a back-drop to the photograph, masking portions of it out. I added the wooden letters for the horses name, and then added the Flutterby, desaturating it a bit, and changing its hue. I added the quote, using separate lines of text, so that I could move them where they looked best to balance out the layout. I then found a slightly ornate edge overlay, changing it to a muted blue, but when trying out the blend modes on it, found that the mode Difference worked best, actually changing it to a soft brown.

***thanks for looking***
Love how Ketch and the cloud of dust stands out and the reduced opacity of the Chevron Paper is so effective, spectacular!

:'\ ....what a bittersweet story. I'm so glad you captured that gorgeous photo. Wonderful lift. Wonderful.
