Freedom

My very favorite time in working with horses is seeing them run full force. So very amazing and invigorating a moment.

The Process: The color of this weeks palette immediately brought to mind the photograph in this layout. I placed the photo on a photo mask. I placed them on a neutral background paper from the Roots Sampler. I pulled one of the square frames from the Roots Sampler and applied the darker solid from the sampler to it, and took the stroke from the frame, and changed it to black. I blended out the portion placed over the horses head. I created a custom shadow. I loved the tree brushes from this weeks release, and placed that behind the framed image, changing both its color and blend mode. I added a variety of elements, including the twine from the ArtPlay Palette Roots kit, masking out portions of it to make it look like it was actually wrapped around the frame. When I see a horse running free, I cant help but think of how it must feel when running full force, and it brought to mind the quote I used. I placed this on the torn paper transfer. In the end, I blended in the faint chevron pattern from a paper using the overlay blend mode, along with the butterfly, the faint swirl texture and the LoopDaLoop, which I changed to white. These last few items represented the freedom, and breaking free. I wanted more texture, so I added a woven look white paper, which I placed on top of everything, and used blend mode linear burn, reducing its opacity to not be too overpowering, and masked a percentage of it from the photograph, since I already added a slight line texture to the photograph. It is so amazing what the different blend modes will do to a page, and toward the end of my design process, I added a transfer to help anchor the photo area, but in playing around with the blend modes, found that the Overlay blend mode placed a slight wash over the photo, brightening the whole area, which I really liked. Lastly, I added a textured edge overlay, changing its color and blend mode to keep it subdued. DONE.

beautiful! the chevron brush/overlay leading away from the photo adds the perfect type of motion.
