To most, this is a normal picture of a wedding. But I know theres more. I know that it only took my mother three months to pull this off. I know that my father desperately wanted to marry my mother before he left for basic training and headed to Vietnam. I know that my mother is wearing a pink ribbon on her wedding dress, which was scandalous for the time. I know that the reception, a cake and punch afternoon affair, took place in the basement of my grandmothers church, Clifton Hill, after the wedding at my dads church Holy Name...Catholic to Presbyterian. (With the Jewish background of my moms side thrown in. I know there are best friends called Pooh bear in the wedding party and that my great uncle gave my mother away. I know these details and I cherish them. I hold the history of this picture close to my heart.
