a family found

i often wondered how come i never saw old family photos. at one point, my grandmother showed me a box of old photos that she had tucked away.
we sat down to look at them and i started to take notes on who the various people were.
after about five photos she had to stop.
most of the photos were the last or close to the last photos of the people in them as they died in the Holocaust.
my grandmother found it too painful to continue to go through the photos and i lost track of the box.
when my grandmother died, she left me a cedar chest. my mother has had it because of transportation issues.
when i went to visit my mother over the holidays, i decided to go through the cedar chest. to my surprise, i found the old box of photos and many, many more with a note from my grandmother to take care of our family.
so now i have many wonderful old photos to cherish. i don't know who most of the people are and there is no one alive in my family who can help with the identifications. i have started to scan the photos and will scrap them. hopefully i will someday have a "family" album that others will enjoy looking at.

a bit about my process...

i started by shrinking the template. i clipped transfers from ArtPlay Simplicty to some of the layers and colored some of the layers using the colors in the transfers as a guide. once i had all the background layers colored and blended, i clicked some of the layers "off" so that i could see what if there was some combination that i really liked. in the end, i used all but two of the original background layers. next, i added the photo and frame. i "painted" some color onto the photo, then added some brushwork to finish the page.

Thanks for looking :)
I can so relate to your story, so similar to my own. My sister and I cleaned out our parents attic and found many old family photos. I have scanned them, identified those that I could, and have been scrapping heritage pages with them. I would like to keep them alive for future generations.
Your photo and LO are beautiful. I know it's almost painful to have these family photos and not know who they are.

This is beautiful beyond words, Adryanne! (thank you for including the process) Your family is so lucky that you are doing this. I bet you will find family resemblances in these pictures. Great story.
