When I was 16 I was determined to move to Stockholm. I had friends there, and the adventures of the big city was tempting. For some strange reason I wanted to study chemistry, and I found a 1-year laboratory school that I applied to. But it turned out that the rules said I had to apply to the same programme in Hudiksvall. Didn't feel right, but the application was sent already. Then it turned out that the programme in Hudiksvall didn't get enough students, and my application ended up in Skoghall instead and I was accepted. After the persuasion from my parents and the study guidance counselor I moved to Skoghall instead of Stockholm. The programme was fun, but what turned out more important, was that there lived a gorgeous young man in the nextdoor flat. We became a couple. When I was done with school I moved to Norrkping to live with him. Our relationship was kind of a rollercoaster. When it was good, it was fantastic. When it wasn't good, it was terrible. After five years we broke up. I had started on KomVux (school for adults) and stayed in Norrkping, I liked the town and had many friends. At the school I met Urban. Me and my friends thought he was a bit strange. When he fell in love with me, at first I thought it was awkward, but he was persistant. After a while of him pining for me, we became a couple. Many at school thought we were an odd couple, and didn't think it would last. Soon it is 23 years ago, and nothing is more natural than us two together. Sometimes I think about how it would have been if the rules for school applications hadn't been like they were, if the programme in Hudiksvall hadn't been cancelled, if I hadn't ended up in the flat next to Pille and we became a couple, if I hadn't moved to Norrkping, and if I hadn't started at KomVux. What if I had moved to Stockholm ...
