This is my third layout about the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy. There will be a few more. I am driven by my deep connection to New York. I live in northern California now, but grew up in Manhattan and Queens, New York. My 92 year old mother lives alone in the family house in Queens. When I went to school there, we were taught the importance of New York in the history of this nation. We were taught its importance in culture, politics, industry and
business. My parents made sure we visited every part of the state, in the city and "up state." I believed New York was the best, most important, most exciting place in the whole world. Stunned and deeply saddened, I compulsively search the internet for images of the damage to my home state and familiar nearby areas.
