Learning to Shoot Trap

Just a note on our learning to shoot trap I never thought I would ever even hold a gun, but after getting married, I took a pistol shooting classes at the police range (for my dh), and shot quite well. One thing I told my dh was as long as he wasn't a hunter, I would be okay with his shooting. I went with Rachel to the range and figured we would both learn trap. Rachel had a very difficult time hitting a clay bird. After about 20 shots, she got frustrated and tired, and took a break. It was my turn I was so nervous as I hadnt shot a gun in about 6 years. I yelled PULL, and broke the first clay bird. I reloaded, yelled pull again, and broke the second target. I did miss the next few, and then broke the 5th one, and called it quits as I figured Rachel would be super frustrated that I was hitting them, and she didnt hit one. The range officer, who was very nice, pulled out his shotgun, and handed it to Rachel and told her to try the sight. He then handed her a shotgun shell, and told her she could try with his shotgun. She hit the first clay bird, and in the following shots, broke half of them. I was so glad, as I didnt want her to leave without ever breaking one, especially since her mom was successful. Her dad is going to put together another shotgun with a sight that is similar, just for her.

Journaling reads: Being vegan, I would think Rachel would never want to shoot a gun. She, however, sees it as a sport of accuracy & enjoys the challenge. Ron had taught her to shoot a rifle at a very young age, but she has not shot in many years. Recently she asked her dad if he could teach her to shoot trap. This caused Ron to again become a range office at the South Bay Rod and Gun Club. We drove out to get introduction instruction on shooting trap. We also watched the other shooters to better understand the sport. After handling and shooting the shotgun a bit, we were told we were now ready to come out and shoot on the line with the other shooters & they would have a range officer stand behind us to give us pointers our first time on the line.
