This photo has always been one of my favorites and on my last trip to California (just 3 weeks ago) I was told the story behind it. I always thought she had such a funny look on her face and now I know why. (Notice the muddy brown accents on the background? Teeheehee)

Although I never officially knew my great grandmother, I always got the impression she was quite the little spitfire. One story in particular really reinforced this for me. It is in fact the story behind this very photo. Hand upon her hip, mussed hair, that look in her eye-all telltale signs of the mischief that preceded. It was picture day and Josie had something up her sleeve. Just before the kids were called outside to have their picture taken, Josie placed a hankie upon the teachers desk and to the teachers amazement what look like a nice, neat little package (perhaps a shiny red apple?) was in reality a nice, neat pile of dog poo. A bad grade, a humiliating moment, simply to get attention? Why she did it, I dont know and while I would never have had the gall, I do realize now where I got my spunk!
